Description

The term Sociopath is thrown around a lot. However the term sociopath refers to a group of very specific antisocial traits (antisocial as in anti society not as in likes being alone.)

1. Lack of Empathy. One of the Sociopaths defining characteristics. Though a better word would be lack of compassion. The Sociopath is normally able to understand other people's emotions but unable (or unwilling) to bring themselves to care. To them everyone who is not them is nothing more than an object to be used at their discretion.

1/2 Lack of Remorse. (This ties directly into the one above.) The Sociopath will lie, cheat, steal, extort, manipulate, or use outright violence without the slightest hesitation, disgust or remorse.

2. lying and Manipulative Behavior.

3. Pathological Need for Stimulation. Because The Sociopath don't care about anyone they are unable to live for other people. The Sociopath largely view their existence as boring and/or meaningless and therefore feel compelled to engage in "thrill-seeking" activities to alleviate their restlessness.

4. Inflated ego and sense of self-worth. The Sociopath see themselves above everyone else around no matter what. Because of The Sociopath is unable to accept personal responsibility for anything ( because that would require to admit to fault.) The Sociopath will as often think of themselves as being better them they actually are. And because of all this they are completely self-centered.

5. Shallow Affect. Part of the reason The Sociopath can't empathize with anyone is because they do have the same feelings as other people. They still feel happy, upset, angry, fear, ect but not to the same extent as other people. But because their such a good liar their able to fake them.

Note that having one or two of these traits don't make some a Sociopath, but it's the combination of them all that makes one a Sociopath.

There are also High and Low functioning Sociopaths.

High-functioning Sociopaths have a high amount of charisma. And are able to make plans and and set goals for themselves (though they will often lacked a clear endgame.) While low-functioning Sociopaths lack these traits and have poor impulse control.

It should be noted that not all Sociopaths are evil (their never really good either. Read Sociopathic Hero.) Many Sociopath grow to become lawyers or bankers about as often as they become con men or serial killers.

There is also the term psychopath which people often used interchangeably there Is one the difference is that Psychopaths are born the way they are while Sociopaths because what they are based on trauma.

Examples (which will include both Sociopath and Psychopaths)

Sosuke Aizen from Bleach. He puts on an affable facade and manipulates everyone around him. Considers himself above the standards of " lesser beings" and considers empathy and morality weaknesses. Uncaring for anyone but himself, Aizen has a habit of using and betraying anyone close to him. Such as trying to kill his subordinate Harribel once she had outlived her usefulness, and impaling his devoutly loyal lieutenant, Momo Hinamori, while hugging her, leaving her traumatized for months.

Mayuri is definitely a sociopath as well as his Eviler counterpart Szayelaporro Granz the Eighth Espada.

Kenpachi Zaraki is a Subversion since he has at least three Morality Pets, including his adopted daughter Yachiru. If he were a true sociopath it's unlikely he would have bothered to spare her life, much less raise her and make her his squad lieutenant.

Light Yagami from Death Note. It's actually Implied that he was a Pychopath all along. Before he got the Death Note he was bored with his life and shown that he couldn't form any meaningful connections with any of his classmates.

Medusa Gordon from Soul Eater.

Dr. Stein also suffers from Sociopaththy\Psychopathy but unlike most examples he trys to keep it under control. This is subverted in the manga at lest, as he states that he does care about is friends.

Frieza from Dragon Ball Z

Vegeta is behaves like one up until Buu Saga.

Farther from Fullmetal Alchemist most of the Homunculus as well.

Solf J. Kimblee, in the first Anime he was a Low Functioning Sociopath but in the Manga/Second Anime he was a very self aware High Functioning Sociopath.

In Fairy Tail the Damon Jackal from the Dark Guild Tartaros admits it's not looking to prove anything. He see humans as play things. He also as a habit of force sadistic choices on too people and literally blows up the head of one of his coworkers for no reason (other than he thought she was annoying.)

Tartaros acting leader Mard Geer is even more of one.

Emperor Palpatine aka Darth Sidious from Star Wars is like a Sociopath check list. Lack of Empathy? Check. Manipulates people like chesspieces and only emitting shallow emotions? Check. Experiences extreme rage and is uplifted when hurting enemies? Check.

Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin he gives Princess Leia a sadistic choice give up location of the rebel base or he'd blow up Alderaan, when he thinks she gives him the information he needs he decides destroy Alderaan anyway. And that's just in A New Hope.

Galactic Empire is full of Sociopaths really.

The Sith philosophy is really one of Sociopathy. It's really surprising that some Sith are not Sociopaths honesty.

The man who would become The Sith Emperor Vitiate was was born without (or at least limited) emotions, killed both his parents when he was still a child. As a man he uses people as a means to an end only to kill them horribly, wipes out entire plants to become immortal, sees himself above other people. As Valkorion the Emperor of the Eternal Empire he builds up an image of benevolence with the people he was ruling, but in reality cares very little for them or his family all while having aspirations of godhood. and when asked to make things right with his family (or to say good bye to them) he declares "A God has no family," and that "Before I graced you with my presence, you were nothing but motes of filth, drowning in the chaos of the void."

The Jungle Book (2016) remake version of Shere Khan. Even for a tiger.

Voldemort from Harry Potter.

Also Bellatrix Lestrange is a incredibly unhinged Sociopath.

From Game Of Thrones/A Song Of Ice And Fire:

Joffrey Baratheon.

Ramsay Snow, the bastard son of Lord Roose Bolton.

Roose Bolton himself.

Ser Gregor Clegane, the Mountain.

Karl Tanner.

Petyr Baelish "Littlefinger".

Professor James Moriarty from Sherlock Holmes.

Lex Luthor even at his best and most sympathetic he's still a sociopath.

Doctor Doom is a subversion. While he displays all the tell tell signs of Sociopathy. One of his personal goals is to free his mother's soul from Mephisto. If he was a true sociopath he probably won't have bothered.

The Joker.

Red Skull.

Carnage was on even before he got his own symbiote. After he became much worse.

Big Bad Slade from Teen Titans. He admits as much in "The End: Part 2".

It might be hard to believe but the original comic version of Terra was a complete psychopath from day one.

Judge Claude frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dom. Though the archdeacon did me him fell "bad" about kill Quasimodo's mother but he seemed like he never actually regretted it. And when he Falls in lust for Esmeralda he refuses to take own up to it (and go so far as to blame God for it.)

Scar from Lion King plans to murder his own brother and nephew just so he can be king. It's actually shown that once he becomes king he becomes incredibly bored with ruling things.

Eric Cartman from South Park is a Sociopath with particular poor impulse control.

In Adventure Time The Crimson owl literally calls Ice King a sociopath. However he doesn't really count as he's to Crazy I understand what's really going on. Marceline, Jake, and Princess Bubblegum all display signs of mild sociopathy. However all three do show that they do care about someone other than themselves.

The so called King of Ooo on the other hand is a true sociopath. He shows a Lack of Empathy (willing to enslave, or apparently even kill a baby), and Imperviousness to Shame (well, he thought he may be a bad ruler for a moment, but a moment later decided it's all Bubblegum's fault); he's a Consummate Liar and Manipulator; has a Grandiose Sense of Self-Worth, apparently genuinely believing he should indeed rule all of Ooo.

Finn's father Martin Mertens display several sign of being a Sociopath. he has a false charm which his actions constantly betray. He lies, manipulates, and otherwise uses people to his own benefit without any concern or empathy toward them, and cares about only himself and nobody else. Through it all he still tries to justify his actions with the most blatantly trivial excuses.

Peter Pan From Once Upon A Time.

Cruella Deville takes this even further, that it's implied that she was born a Pychopath.

Believe it or not but the original version of Peter Pan was also Sociopath.

Marty from Steven Universe shows signs of a non-criminal but otherwise low-functioning Sociopath.

In Avatar The Last Airbender subverted by Azula but played company straight by her father Fire Lord Ozai (it's implied that Ozai's own father was a Sociopath too.)

Mr Bruns from the Simpsons (though normally played for Laughs.)

Homer Himself at his absolute worst. Only a real sociopath is probably smarter.

Bart can as be one at times as well.

From Family Guy, Peter Griffin Post Uncancellation is bad enough to make the jerkass version of Homer Simpson look like a saint.

Stewie Griffin used to be one before taking a level in kindness.

Bander from Futurama is a subversion even though he caters to pretty much every sociopathic traits accept that he do feel love (only it's extremely selfish and one-sided.)

Legend of Zelda series:

Zant From Twilight Princess.

Yuga from A Link Between Worlds.

Vaati in Minish Cap.

Depending on the game Ganondorf/Ganon.

Master Xenahort from Kingdom Hearts series.

Presumably the high level Nobodies we're supposed to be this. But it fell into informed attribute territory and was later semi retconed.

Xemnas however is a Sociopath. However his Sociopathic nature might have less to do with being a Nobody and to do with being Xehanort's Nobody.
